The Big Daddy Fishing Event

When it comes to fishing at South Carolina State Parks, Santee State Park is the daddy of them all. Each year in August the park hosts the Big Daddy Fishing Event, a fishing tournament where the little ones can come out and play.

There’s no need to spend the entire summer indoors when Mother Nature has so much to offer outdoors. Mom, dad, aunts, uncles, grandma and grandpa – if you have a young angler in your life who would love to spend time at a park fishing, sponsor him or her so they can reel in a big one at Santee State Park. No matter how full (or not so full) their bucket is when the event is over, every child is a winner in the Big Daddy Fishing Event. They get prizes just for participating!

Now get your rod, cane, bait and tackle ready for what’s lurking in the Lakes Moultrie and Marion in the heart of Santee Cooper Country. Shellcracker, largemouth bass, striped bass, bream, crappie or catfish will nibble at whatever’s on the end of your hook.

Santee State Park has been home to the Big Daddy Fishing Event for more than 30 years. If you can’t come to the tournament, you can fish at the park anytime. Spend the night and save a few dollars on cabins in June and July when they’re 35 percent off!
