The Worst in Town is Not So Bad
For a company whose motto is “Guaranteed Worst in Town,” one is left to wonder why Cromer's has been in business for over 70 years. The slogan actually came about after Cromer’s pioneer Julian D. Cromer was challenged by a peanut concession competitor just across the aisle from his one-man stand in downtown Columbia, SC. Legend has it the other enterprising local told customers who came to his stand that Cromer had the worst peanuts in the market. Cromer candidly began to advertise his product using the slogan. Two generations later, the store is still popping.
